Malindi Golf Club
Nestled among the picturesque dunes alongside the renowned beaches of Malindi along Kenya’s northern coast, this unique golf course promises both a thrilling and satisfying round of golf.
Featuring nine distinctive holes, the course boasts a layout that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape, offering golfers a challenging yet enjoyable experience. With separate tees and additional greens on the back nine, it effectively mirrors the feel of a full 18-hole course.
Maintaining the traditional 8-4-6 layout characteristic of Malindi, the course presents players with six par threes and four demanding par fives, providing a comprehensive test of their skills.
One of the standout features of the course is its finely contoured greens, meticulously laid with Polana grass, which consistently roll at a brisk pace of 10 feet on the ‘stimpmeter’. These greens add an extra layer of challenge and excitement to each round of golf played here.

Vasco da Gama Pillar – A Historic Landmark in Malindi
The Vasco da Gama Pillar, built in the late 15th century, stands as a testament to Portugal’s age of exploration. In 1498, Vasco da Gama’s fleet anchored in Malindi, warmly received by the Sultan, who provided supplies and a skilled navigator, Ibn Majid, to guide them to India.
On his return voyage in 1499, Da Gama’s sailors erected the original limestone Padrao bearing Portugal’s coat of arms as a navigation marker. Though initially removed due to local discontent, the Sultan later allowed its reinstallation at its current site. This is the only original Padrao remaining on Africa’s coast.
Over time, the pillar weathered, and in 1973, it was reinforced with a protective concrete cone. Declared a National Monument in 1935, it is now maintained by the National Museums of Kenya, with enhancements like sea wall restoration, paved access, and visitor facilities ensuring a memorable experience.
